healthy carpet cleaning routine

Keeping our home and family healthy is important to all of us.  From monthly cleaning air filters to vacuuming twice a week will help to keep allergens and dust mites at a manageable level.  But how well does your vacuum clean the carpet?

The ingredients of house dust that can cause allergic reaction include molds, pet and human dander, and cockroach waste. However, the dust mite - found in ordinary house dust - plays the most significant role in all the sniffling and sneezing. The dust mite is a microscopic, spider-like creature which is found in homes. It is primarily in carpets, mattresses and upholstered furniture and thrives in humid and warm conditions. The dust mite feeds on shed scales from human skin! The waste products produced by these mites are highly allergenic (able to cause allergic reaction). These waste products continue to cause allergic symptoms even after the mite that produced them has died.

Having your carpet cleaned every 6 months is highly recommended by most carpet manufacturers for an average household.  If you have pets or active children, it bumps to every 3 months.

In a two-year, south Florida school study, examining the effectiveness of routine maintenance in lowering dust mite allergen levels, dust mite allergen levels were reduced by an average of 92% with each routine carpet cleaning.
